Learn MoreAfter a hiatus in camper ownership, he wanted to get back on the road with something reliable, great quality and value for money that would satisfy his love of remote countryside and outdoor activities. So, it was Wellhouse to the rescue…
“My first campervans were a couple of Island plastic Romahomes,” said Ian. “I then went without a camper for some five years after selling the previous vehicle when relocating to the Isle of Mull. Unfortunately, due to redundancy and a family bereavement, this was curtailed far too quickly.
“I went searching for a new campervan and after much research and several trips to Wellhouse for an informed, but very low-key sales approach, I opted for a two-year-old, low mileage Hyundai i800 conversion. She’s called Hazel”
“It’s been brilliant. I’ve had my Wellhouse campervan since 2013 and it’s never let me down. The van is my only vehicle so it had to be practical for everyday use. I do a lot of cycling to work so it can spend a lot of time on the drive, but it’s not missed a beat.
“I love cycling and have a real passion for the outdoors which is where the campervan comes in. I use the van to explore the more remote areas of the UK. I often base myself in an area and then use my bike or walk to explore the surrounding area, combining this with my interest in wildlife and birdwatching.
“I have been fortunate to have watched otters, eagles and on one occasion a corncrake from the comfort of my campervan.”
From Munro bagging in Scotland (walking hills over 3000ft) to taking in one his favorite sports, Hazel the Wellhouse camper has taken Ian on some adventures he won’t forget.
“The freedom and opportunities a camper can afford are very diverse. One notable experience was camping on a little farm site at Buckden in the Yorkshire Dales to watch the Tour de France Grand Depart. Cycling must be the only sport where an amateur can experience the same challenge as a professional athlete. The incredible and unique atmosphere of the actual event was amazing, but watching the professionals effortlessly cycle up the same climb you struggled up the previous day makes it even more special.”
“As my latest passion has now turned to hillwalking, there is a chance you may see me out on the hills of Scotland adding to my meagre list of Munros!”
