If you want to follow something a little different go to thevantripfamily.com This is a family of 4 who have sold up and headed out on a 2 year camping expedition with the kids aged 6 & 9 in a Ford terrier Custom! You can also follow their exploits on Facebook.
Having owned a Mazda Bongo for 4 and a bit years we upgraded to the Terrier as we wanted something bigger but still small enough to be used as a second car for the occasional commute. We often use it for transporting mountain bikes for day trips where it doubles up as a handy changing room. We are often away for one night trips and long weekends either biking or walking. For these trips we stay on campsites as well as wild camping. Thanks to the solar panel we rarely need electric hookup. Last year longer trips took us on a tour of the Outer Hebrides and to Yorkshire. This year we’re off to Holland and Belgium.
We (Kirsty & Steve Rawson) live on a farm just outside Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire from where we run three holiday cottages (www.lettochcottages.com). We have a general love of the outdoors, the hills and the wild land of Scotland and have had a hankering for a campervan and the freedom that represents for a number of years. Having developed our site as much as we felt comfortable with we were also looking for other ways to grow additional income streams and purchasing a campervan to use ourselves and hire out provided us with the perfect excuse to take the plunge.
Wellhouse came to our attention having watched Cameron McNeish wax lyrical about his converted Hyundai on the TV over Christmas. This sparked our enthusiasm so we decided to hire a Wellhouse converted campervan (a Toyota Granvia) from the excellent ‘Big Tree Campervans’ just south of us on the outskirts of Perth. We loved it, so much so that we had to have one!
Wellhouse had three ‘second hand’ Toyota’s available in April (2016) so I headed down to pick the best of them. To us it just made perfect sense to choose a Granvia over a VW. The Granvia gave us everything a VW camper would give us (same size, same equipment) but at a much much better price and with the famed Toyota reliability. And the condition of the imported Toyota’s from Japan belies their age. You have to see the immaculate condition of these vehicles to believe it! Ours is 18 years old, with a 6 year old camper conversion and it looks and feels like a 2-3 year old vehicle.
So we have our beautiful Campervan and are now establishing our hire business (https://www.facebook.com/killiecrankiecampervans). We’re just hoping that it doesn’t become so successful we struggle get to use it ourselves. Our first trip in it, to the Outer Hebrides, was just remarkable.
Hi we live in central Scotland and are a couple of early retirees with three grandkids. We bought our Wellhouse Ford Terrier Rosso Sport in July 2015.
We sold a large coachbuild Motorhome and our car and use our Terrier as our everyday vehicle and our Campervan. It really is an excellent multi purpose vehicle.
During our first year of ownership we have used our Terrier every day. We use it for shopping, general run around, taking our grandkids for days out and of course touring and camping. The grandkids love setting out for a day at the Safari Park in our Camper - roof up and lunch alfresco with the Terrier as a mobile home!
In the 12 months since purchase we have spent over 150 nights away touring. This included ten weeks in Spain where we covered 3,000 miles over January, February and early March followed by a four week tour of Belgium, the Netherlands and France in May/June. The rest of our touring has been in the UK. The Terrier has proved to be an outstanding campervan and multipurpose vehicle. The Ford Transit Custom Trend base drives like a dream and the Wellhouse conversion is simply stunning. We could not ask for a better campervan. The team at Wellhouse have all been great to deal with. A true customer focussed business with David Elliot, a real gentleman, at the Helm.
I’ve had my Ford Terrier a year and my wife and I love it, from the day we walked through the showroom in Shepley, near Barnsley to the day we took delivery in Kent. We were looking for a vehicle that could meet lots of different criteria from holidaying, a day vehicle, to being used when I go kayaking, and not forgetting somewhere comfortable for my wife to retreat to.
We initially worked with Wellhouse and then our local Ford dealer, Haynes of Maidstone, both of whom were fantastic to work with and made the buying experience as special as taking delivery,
We have taken our Ford Terrier to the South West of France, done a couple of long weekend trips within the UK and planning our next trip to France this year where we plan to drive down to the South coast of France, with several stops along the West coast.
We are now in the 5th year of Hyundai i800 ownership. We are converted tent campers who didn't fancy towing a caravan or splashing out on a large motorhome that would spend most of its time on the drive. We like to go away little and often (say 3/4 nts.once a mth.) now we are retired, with 1 or 2 longer holidays. We are keen walkers and appreciate a fresh brew at the end of the day. There is plenty of room for the dog, (rescue lurcher) who goes everywhere with us. Having kept Jane's Mini, and find the combination of vehicles very practical for family living.
